I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at the University of Minnesota, where I hold a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

I am a cultural sociologist who researches the media industries, particularly the cultural production of knowledge in the digital age. My current research examines the impact of platformization on the U.S. documentary film industry.

I work across disciplinary boundaries, including sociology, journalism, communications, and media studies. My research interests include media sociology, sociology of culture, digital sociology, sociology of morality, media industry studies, and documentary film.

I have taught in both the sociology and journalism departments at the University of Minnesota, receiving a teaching excellence award in 2025.

I am also an award-winning documentary producer and director, with work on HBO, PBS, Al Jazeera, and other outlets worldwide. Recent work has been recognized by the Library of Congress, Critics Choice Awards, International Documentary Association, News & Documentary Emmy Awards, and others.
