I am an Assistant Professor in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma.

As a media scholar and documentary producer, I blend theory with practice, conducting research and producing creative work within the nonfiction media industries. As a university instructor, I teach courses in creative media production and media studies.

My current research explores how the rise of streaming platforms is reshaping the U.S. documentary film industry and the symbolic construction of reality. Trained as a cultural sociologist, I work across disciplinary boundaries, including sociology, communication, journalism studies, and film and media studies.

As a documentary filmmaker, my work spans topics, styles, and genres to investigate the human condition with curiosity, care, and intention. My work has been featured on HBO, PBS, Al Jazeera, and other outlets worldwide, and recognized by the Library of Congress, the Critics Choice Awards, the International Documentary Association, the News & Documentary Emmy Awards, and others.
